Do I have anxiety?

Both anxiety and depression seem to have become quite widespread recently, especially since the isolating times during covid. It would be unfair to expect us all to bounce back without any help and support. So ensure you reach out and get the help you need.

What does anxiety feel like?

Do you feel like you’ve been spiralling with negative thoughts? Always thinking about the worst case scenario? Do you try to avoid situations or people? Feel like you’re always in an irritable mood? Are you having difficulty focusing? Have any ongoing physical symptoms like headaches and stomach cramps even though you’ve been medically cleared? Waking up after a full night’s sleep still feeling tired? These could be symptoms of anxiety.

What is a panic attack?

Have you ever felt overwhelmed and out of control at the same time? Where your body won’t listen to you and seems to be frozen in place? Feeling weak while you’re having difficulty breathing? When you can feel your heart beating too fast and your hands are all clammy and sweaty? These are a few of the things that can happen during a panic attack and can be triggered when you feel you are losing control of a situation.

Do I need professional help for my anxiety?

Having a qualified health team consisting of a doctor with a background in mental health along with a qualified therapist can also help us navigate the path to recovery. Whether it’s to help us overcome negative thoughts, address our fears, shift our mindset or learn and implement coping mechanisms; or looking at potential medical aggravating factors like low Vitamin D or thyroid dysfunction and considering natural supplements; having our own personal, experienced support team can make all the difference!

Dr Katib has extensive experience helping patients customize their own mental health plans according to their individual needs. Regular check-ins and long-term follow up does provide that extra support that you may need. We also have an in-house psychologist Lize Van Der Walt who recently joined our team at Baylife Medical. Lize shares the same holistic approach to mental wellbeing as Dr Issma Katib, and together they’re here to help you throughout all stages of your life.
Located in Neutral Bay, Dr Issma Katib sees patients from North Sydney, Neutral Bay, Cremorne, Mosman and more. Taking new patients now, it’s easy to make an appointment online or call us to find out more.
